Thanksgiving Mitten Minute: Lions-Packers, Cade Drops 42 & Michigan Dominates Gonzaga
Happy Thanksgiving, Michigan! This Thanksgiving Mitten Minute is all about gratitude and a packed holiday slate. I want to thank everyone who’s reached out to say how much you’re enjoying the Mitten Minute, the theme song, and MittenSportsTalk.com. It’s a lot of hard work, but I’m truly thankful that fans across the state are embracing independent Michigan sports coverage. Smash that follow or subscribe button and let’s dive in.
Detroit Lions: Holiday Showdown at Ford Field
The Detroit Lions are serving up the main course this afternoon as they host the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field in the annual Thanksgiving matchup. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM on FOX.
All eyes will be on the trenches after the news about Frank Ragnow’s injury broke yesterday. It’ll be interesting to see how quickly he can get back on the field, and how the offensive line holds up in the meantime against a physical Packers front.
Detroit Pistons: Streak Snapped, Cade Erupts for 42
Looking back at last night, the Pistons’ incredible 13-game winning streak came to an end in Boston. Detroit fell 117–114 to the Celtics in a tight one, despite a massive 42-point performance from Cade Cunningham.
Cade did everything he could to keep Detroit alive, but Jaylen Brown and Derrick White proved to be too much down the stretch. Even with the loss, this run has sent a clear message: the Pistons are no longer an easy out.
Detroit Red Wings: Third-Period Collapse Raises Questions
On the ice, the Red Wings were defeated by the Nashville Predators, 6–3. Detroit gave up five goals in the third period, turning a competitive game into a frustrating loss.
Right now, this team just doesn’t look like a playoff lock. The Wings have to figure out how to protect leads and play a full sixty minutes. The inconsistency is piling up, and if they want to be taken seriously as a postseason team, that part of their game has to change.
Michigan Wolverines: Championship Statement in Vegas
In college hoops, it was a championship celebration for the Michigan Wolverines. The No. 7 Michigan men’s basketball team absolutely routed No. 12 Gonzaga, 101–61, to win the Players Era title.
Yaxel Lendeborg led the way with 20 points and 11 boards to earn MVP honors, and Michigan looked every bit like a team that can make serious noise this season.
On the women’s side, the No. 6 Michigan Wolverines rolled past Detroit Mercy, 102–53, in another dominant effort. Both programs are putting on a show heading into the heart of the season.
Michigan State Spartans: Hoops and Hockey Rolling
Today’s holiday action continues with another marquee matchup as the No. 11 Michigan State Spartans face No. 16 North Carolina at 4:30 PM on FOX. It’s another big-stage opportunity for Tom Izzo’s group to show where they stack up nationally.
On the ice, the No. 3 Spartans men’s hockey team stayed hot with a 5–2 win over Colgate, keeping their strong start to the season rolling.
